  1. User experience has often take a backseat to monetization needs at publishers, leading to the rise of ad blocking, and tech giants like Google and Apple cracking down on ads that slow down page speed.

But letting go of annoying, obtrusive ad formats which are still big revenue generators isn’t easy for publishers. For the latest in our Confessions series, we spoke to a digital media vet, who until recently was a senior publishing executive at a national newspaper, but has also spent time on the ad tech side, about the challenges in fixing the user experience.

  2. Want to master a career in UX design? Take some advice from someone who has walked the path before you. It’s an exciting time to enter the world of user experience (UX) design. Companies are becoming more aware of the importance of good UX design every day and so, it’s an extremely rewarding industry to be in. For someone just starting out, though, it can be daunting. There are many tools, jobs and other nuances that can make it feel a bit overwhelming. As with many jobs, it’s always good to hear from someone who has taken those initial steps in the past and gone on to excel in the field.

Sure, they’ve optimised their mobile apps, set up various discounts and promotions to reel customers in, and updated their merchandising strategies…But what about the customers? How are they experiencing the holiday rush? Are there certain funnels in which they’re struggling?

  4. Google updated its search quality evaluator guidelines back in August, placing a greater focus on the ‘E-A-T’ principles of expertise, authority and trust.

The first few weeks of the update was characterised by leading brands witnessing significant and sometimes erratic changes in their organic search visibility. Some brands saw their visibility almost wiped out entirely, only to return to normal shortly afterward. Weeks of volatility followed as Google appeared to tweak the dials on the updated algorithm.

  5. Data management platforms, or DMPs (which is ‘agnostic’ and plugs and plays with any system) allow marketers to personalise at scale, with the flexibility they need: they can orchestrate messages in real-time across any platform, from a cutting edge smartwatch to an ancient CRM system.

  6. The new age definition of doing good business is how engaging and gratifying is the user experience. User experience basically means creating a connection between the machine and its user. Better the connection, better the experience. This week, we interviewed Mr. Ravi Teja, CEO, Robosoft, an organization that believes that technology exists to simplify lives ….and businesses.
